Coats Claims 4th Place with PR at Lauren McCluskey Multis

MOSCOW, Idaho – Junior Jonah Coats wrapped ups his first heptathlon of the season by taking fourth place overall on Saturday at the Lauren McCluskey Invite & Multis.
 
Coats finished with a personal record and NAIA Provisional qualifying mark to nationals with 4,435 total points. The total was an improvement of nearly 400 points from last season, his first year competing in the multi events when he posted a score of 4,046. The total also moved him up to No. 7 in the EOU record books.
 
Completing the final three of seven events on Saturday, Coats finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.33 seconds. In the pole vault, he finished with the second best height of 4.40 meters, earning 731 points, the most for him of any event. In the final event, the 1,000 meter run, Coats finished in 3:05.29 to wrap up his day.
 
EOU's other competitor, junior Sam Roddewig, placed 13th overall with 3,646 points. Roddewig had a good race in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.15 seconds, but no-heighted in the pole vault. He had a strong finish to the day, placing second in the 1,000 meter run in 2:57.19.
 
The full EOU teams will be back in action next Saturday at the Bronco Invitational in Boise, Idaho.
