No. 10 Mountaineers Suffer 1st Loss at No. 19 Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon volleyball team battled with a tough Corban squad, but ultimately fell in four sets (25-20, 25-27, 21-25, 23-25) on the road on Saturday night for their first loss of the season.

The Mountaineers (11-1, 1-1 CCC) were without All-American hitter Hailee Ackerman for this one as they still kept pace with the Warriors (5-3, 2-0 CCC) over the majority of the match. The Mounties hit .099 overall while holding Corban to .152 thanks to 15 team blocks.

EOU came out of the gates hot with a 25-20 win in the first set. A second set loss of 27-25 shifted the momentum to the Warriors and their home crowd as they won three straight, including another two-point set in the fourth.

The Mounties still managed a strong effort up front, led by sophomore Jet Taylor's eight block assists. Seniors Megan Bunn and Taylor Tibbetts and sophomore Cambree Scott each had five block assists.

Bunn led the attack with 13 kills. Tibbetts and sophomore Breanna Shaffer each had nine.

In the back row, junior Kiley McMurtrey had 22 digs. Setter Madison Pilon finished with 38 assists and 19 digs, while Bunn also posted 19 digs. Defenders Aspen Christiansen and Sade Williams had 16 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Blue and Gold next visit Walla Walla on Tuesday at 7 p.m. followed by their home opener against the College of Idaho on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
