Mountaineers Suffer Another Tough Overtime Loss at Marymount

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. – For the second game in a row, the Eastern Oregon men's soccer team suffered a tough overtime defeat, falling to Marymount (Calif.) 2-1 in double overtime on the road on Monday.
 
The Mountaineers (1-2-0) led 1-0 through 75 minutes, but an 80th minute tally by the Mariners tied the score 1-1 and eventually sent the match to overtime.
 
Neither team could score in the first overtime period, but just over a minute into the second OT, Joshua Bynoe found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, sending the Mariners off with the victory.
 
EOU scored the opening goal of the game in the 37th minute as senior Elvis Pavon received a pass from junior Javier Moran, finishing it in the bottom right corner of the net.
 
Despite being outshot 9-2 in the first half, the Mounties maintained a 1-0 lead through 45 minutes. EOU controlled the play more in the second half with a 12-9 advantage in shots, but could not find another goal. Both teams had six shots on goal in the match as goalkeeper Max Rose made four saves.
 
Pavon led the team with three shots and two on goal. Moran had two shots along with Felipe Madero.
 
The Mountaineers will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, visiting The Master's in Santa Clarita, Calif. Like Marymount, The Master's is also receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
