EOU Men's Soccer Earns Tie After Hill's Late Goal

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Going to its fourth-straight overtime game to open the season, the Eastern Oregon men's soccer team tied for the first time, 3-3 at The Master's in a back-and-forth non-conference matchup on Wednesday.

Senior Micah Hill tallied his first goal of the season in the 84th minute, tying the game at 3-3 to eventually send it to overtime. The goal came after absolute mayhem in the box as Joaquin Bermejillo, who picked up the assist, hit a missile off the crossbar that bounced back into play and was headed in by Hill. Patrick Larsen also earned a secondary assist after his slick pass to Bermejillo.

EOU (1-2-1) enjoyed possession for a majority of the first 25 minutes with the ball in the attacking third, but the first Mustang goal arrived on the back of an EOU chance. Ruunning up the field on a counter attack, the Masters' Luis Garcia Sosa slotted it past keeper Max Rose.

Rose came up big with eight minutes left to keep the Mounties in the game, denying the Master's, stopping a shot from close range. Three minutes later Mike Dias, the junior from Sao Paolo, found the equalizer for the Mountaineers with five minutes remaining in the half. Dias received a through ball from Bermejillo, beating a defender and putting it past Price Anderson from outside the box. It was Bermejillo's first of two assists.

The second half was filled with more exciting play and four total goals. The Master's came out firing after the break, finding the net three minutes into the half through Dylan Bielanski. Nearly 28 minutes later, EOU tied the game again. After some close ball control from Dias, he found the feet of Alexander Zuluaga who then rocketed the ball into the top left corner for his second goal this season.

However, less than two minutes later the Mustangs regained the lead for the third time in the match when Bielanski grabbed his second of the afternoon. The action didn't stop there as the Mounties answered just over five minutes later on Hill's header.

The Mountaineers out shot the Mustangs 20-11 for the match, including 6-0 in a dominant 20 minutes of overtime, but couldn't find a fourth goal to run away with the win. As The Master's energy depleted, the Mounties picked up the pace, looking for the golden goal.

Dias and senior Elvis Pavon led the offense with five shots apiece while Bermejillo had four. Rose made four saves in goal.

The Mountaineers complete their California road trip on Friday, visiting No. 11 Vanguard at 4 p.m. in Costa Mesa.
