Nelson Drops Career-High 28 in EOU’s 50th Consecutive Home Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Senior Jane Nelson had her best shooting game of the 2019-20 season, scoring a career-high as a Mountaineer of 28 points as the No. 17 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team downed Warner Pacific 77-65 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Saturday night. The win is the 50th in a row at home for the program, dating back to Jan. 22, 2016.

Nelson was on fire from the get-go, dropping 22 points in the first half as she made 5-of-6 three pointers to open the game. With a sizeable lead, the senior took just four shots in the second half, but still finished with her career-best of 28 points. She was 10-for-16 overall from the floor.

The Mountaineers (8-4, 2-0 CCC) led from start to finish after a basket by sophomore Beverly Slater in the game's first 10 points. The Mounties got off to a 10-2 lead and never looked back as Nelson hit back-to-back three's. EOU had a 10-point lead after the first quarter.

The Blue and Gold extended their lead out to 18 points at halftime and then 22 points after three quarters. The Knights mounted a small comeback in the fourth quarter as they outscored EOU 20-10, but the 22-point deficit was too much to overcome.

The win continued EOU's dominance over CCC opponents and at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers have lost just one game in the CCC since the 2017-18 season as they begin their run for a fourth championship in a row with a 2-0 record.

Junior Megan Still also had an excellent shooting night, recording 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Still also added eight rebounds. Sophomore Beverly Slater chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Mountaineers. Senior Kylie Smith had seven rebounds and senior Madison Crews led the team with seven assists.

The Knights had three scorers in double-digits, led by Gabriella Bruno with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Jackson had 14 points and Genna Schoen 13 in the loss.

The Mountaineers will take the week off before heading on the road, visiting rival Southern Oregon on Dec. 20 and Oregon Tech on Dec. 21.
