Mountaineers Win 8th in a Row over SOU 82-59

ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 17 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team used a 54-29 advantage in the first half to run past rival Southern Oregon 82-59 on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers (9-4, 3-0 CCC) took a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, but absolutely dominated the second quarter by a 26-8 score. EOU had nine of their 10 made three pointers in the first half and outrebounded the Raiders (5-5, 1-2) 28-11 in the first 20 minutes.

Despite the Raiders outscoring EOU 19-10 in the third quarter, the Mounties led the entire second half thanks to their outstanding first half. The Blue and Gold continued to roll in the fourth quarter, shutting down any thought of a Southern comeback with an 18-11 advantage.

Senior Rachel Fielder was a presence inside for EOU, scoring 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Junior Megan Still had 15 points with a game-high three made three pointers, four steals and four rebounds. Sophomore Beverly Slater had 11 points and seven rebounds. The Mounties spread the ball around well with 12 different scorers and 21 team assists.

Senior Emma Logan had a strong all-around game with nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior Kylie Smith added five points and seven boards.

The win extends the Mountaineers' winning streak over SOU to eight games, including four in a row in Ashland, dating back to Jan. 14, 2017, the last time the Raiders won over EOU.

The Mounties continue to dominate CCC opponents, winning 52 of the last 53 in regular season play.

Bryanna Raff led the Raiders with 14 points as three players scored in double-digits. SOU was held to 4-for-15 from beyond the arc and had just one-second chance point as EOU did a great job on the defensive boards.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday night, visiting Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
