EOU Men’s Wrestling Falls 26-19 vs. North Idaho

YAKIMA, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team fell for the first time in 2019 in a close dual, 26-19 against North Idaho College on Saturday night.

The Mountaineers (4-1) got off to a slow start as the Cardinals took the first two matches and a 10-0 lead. EOU answered back, however, as freshman Monte Zufelt won his match at 133 pounds by a third period fall over Bryce Miller. Senior Blake McNall followed with a 10-0 major decision to tie the score at 10 apiece.

The Cardinals went onto win the next three matches by fall, major decision and decision to go ahead 23-10.

At 174 pounds, sophomore Keegan Mulhill answered back with a first round pin, earning six points and cutting the deficit to 23-16. Junior Marco Retano added to the comeback as he won a close 6-3 decision over Isaac Gomez at 184 pounds to make the score 23-19 with one match remaining.

In what would be the match of the night, sophomore Ryan Redford took on NIC's Hunter Gregerson. Going down to the wire, Gregerson earned an extremely close 8-7 decision win to hold off the Mounties and give the Cardinals the 26-19 win.

The Mountaineers are next back in action on Saturday at the Clackamas Open in Clackamas, Oregon.
