Pine & Ninman Take 3rd at Mike Clock Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Two Eastern Oregon men's wrestlers in sophomore Ryan Ninman and freshman Josh Pine took third place each at the Mike Clock Open on Sunday to lead the team.

Pine finished with a 5-1 record overall in the 165 pound weight class, winning five-straight including a forfeit, after a first round loss. Pine fell to Corban's Cooper McCullough in the first match of the day, but responded admirably.

The freshman then won his next match by a fall in under 30 seconds, followed by a dominant 18-0 technical fall. After the forfeit victory, Pine got revenge on McCullough, pinning the Warrior wrestler in just one second over the time he was pinned earlier at 3:23 into the match.

Pine kept the momentum going in his final two matches, pinning both opponents in the first round each. This included a pin of Southern Oregon's Matthew Roeser in the consolation finals, earning himself third place.

Ninman placed third at 157 pounds, winning the final two matches by forfeit and no contest. The sophomore started his day with a 19-4 technical fall victory and an 8-4 decision win to reach the semifinals. After a technical fall loss, Ninman was able to claim third place with the forfeit and no contest.

No other Mountaineers placed on the day, but a number of them won at least one match. Hunter Nees won two matches at 125 pounds including a fall in less than a minute. Dally Ratcliff earned one win by fall at 149 pounds. John Bittinger won two matches by decision at 157 pounds. Tyler Wilson earned two pins at 165 pounds while Cade Woodward earned a victory at 197 pounds.

The Mountaineers are next at home for their season opening duals on Friday, hosting Umpqua CC at 3 p.m. and Southern Oregon in a CCC battle at 5 p.m.
