Men’s Basketball Battles to Wild 132-125 Win at Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball won a thrilling overtime matchup with an incredible offensive display, defeating NCAA Division III Pacific University 132-125 on Friday night on the road.
 
The Mountaineers (3-2) battled back from a 60-46 halftime deficit to force an overtime period against the host Boxers. EOU shot a ridiculous 74.3 percent from the field in the second half and outrebounded Pacific 28-17 in the second half. Junior Max McCullough led the charge in the second half, scoring 19 of his 35 total points in the period while senior Jarek Schetzle had a second half double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. McCullough's layup with 18 seconds left sent the game to overtime.
 
In the five minute overtime period, Schetzle, senior Brock Johnson and sophomore Kobi Gardea each had six points to lead the team to a 25-18 advantage. Most of this damage was done at the free throw line where the Mounties got to line an incredible 16 times, making 14 of their attempts. Gardea was a perfect 6-for-6 in overtime from the charity stripe.
 
McCullough finished the night with a season-high 35 points, shooting 12-for-26 with seven assists and rebounds in 44 minutes played. Schetzle had a great line of 31 points and 18 rebounds on 15-of-16 shooting, adding six blocks.
 
Also with solid games was junior Josh Brown with 18 points and nine rebounds, Gardea with 14 points and seven assists in 41 minutes and Johnson with 11 points.
 
Overall, EOU shot 64.5 percent from the field for the game and 28-for-37 from the free throw line, finishing with 82 points in the paint.
 
The Mountaineers are next at home on Friday against Northwest Indian College at 8 p.m.
