Mountaineers Throttle Corban 3-0 to Reach Third Finals in a Row

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team took no chances in a dominating 3-0 victory over No. 8-seed Corban to advance to their third-straight finals, Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank.

The Mountaineers (14-2-2) outshot the Warriors (10-8-1) 14-7 for the match and 9-3 in shots on goal as they controlled the play for the majority of the matchup. After not getting their first goal of the quarterfinals until midway through the second half, the team made sure to have a lead at halftime. In the 41st minute, junior Camie Edgington, an honorable mention All-CCC selection, laced a ball from outside the box into the net for her fifth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.

13 minutes into the second half, freshman Lindsay Balkenbush made a veteran play, reading the pass between defenders and intercepting it before beating the keeper one-on-one and slotting the ball home. The goal was her second of the season and biggest of her young career.

First Team All-CCC forward Morgan Farrington scored the clincher in the 78th minute, blasting a shot past the Warrior keeper for her 10th of the season and a 3-0 Mountaineer advantage.

Senior forward Nan Kiebert led the team with three shots and two on goal. Junior keeper Savannah Hutchinson made three saves for her second shutout of the tournament.

The Blue and Gold head to the finals where they will face No. 3-seed Rocky Mountain. The Battlin' Bears defeated Southern Oregon Wednesday night in a penalty shootout. EOU and Rocky met up in Billings on Oct. 18 where the Mountaineers persevered 2-1 in a double overtime battle. The winner of Friday's championship match will earn the conference's second auto qualifier to the national tournament.
