No. 5 EOU Volleyball Sweeps the Weekend With Win Over Multnomah

LA GRANDE, Ore. - It was another successful night for the No. 5 Eastern Oregon women's volleyball team who ended their weekend with another sweep against the Multnomah Lions (0-9, 0-9 CCC). The Mountaineers have now completed their first round of conference, playing all ten teams and coming out 9-1 and 19-1 overall.

In three sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-16) the Mountaineers never let the Lion's reach 20 points, out playing them in blocks, digs, kills, and assists. The Mountaineer's also had nine service aces, a conference season-high, to the Lion's one.

Sophomore middle blocker Jet Taylor led the team in kills with nine and blocks with five. Outside hitters Megan Bunn and Breanna Shaffer both tallied four kills apiece. For assists, junior Madison Pilon racked up 13 and freshman Brooke Dodge had eight of her own. Leading the team in digs was junior libero Kiley McMurtrey with 19.

In set one, the Mountaineers trailed early until tying it at 7-7. They then broke away to lead by ten points at 22-12 and eventually finished it by giving the Lions only two more points at 25-14. The second set was back and forth between each team until 8-8 when the Lions had two errors. The Mountaineers capitalized on those errors with a kill from Taylor and a service ace by McMurtrey, bringing the momentum back on the EOU side. At 17-11, the Mountaineers held the Lions to 11 points and earned eight-straight points to close out the set 25-11. The third set was the last chance for the Lions to put up a fight, but the Blue and Gold got it done ending it by a kill from freshman Sade Williams, winning convincingly 25-16.

For Multnomah, Kamaile Labanon had a team high of six kills and had the team's only ace. Emma Morcom was close behind with five kills and also tallied one block. On defense, Alyssa Mehalovich paced the team in digs with 13. Amanda Holm totaled 15 assists on the night.

The Mountaineers are home for another weekend, looking to get revenge on their only loss of the year against No. 7 Corban on Friday at 5 p.m. They then place Northwest Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for EOU's Homecoming Weekend.
