EOU Volleyball Wins 13th Straight in 4 Sets Against Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Collecting another win on Friday night, the No. 3 Eastern Oregon University women's volleyball team came through with a four set (24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20) victory on the road against the Northwest University Eagles (11-11, 9-7 CCC). This is EOU's 13th straight win and the Mountaineers improved to 24-1 and 14-1 in Cascade Conference play.

The win is also the Mountaineers second win over NU this season, the first coming in EOU's third home game when they swept the Eagles.

Finishing with a season high of 22 kills, senior outside hitter Megan Bunn led the Mountaineer offense, also pacing the defense with a team-high of 25 digs. Junior defensive specialist Aspen Christiansen had herself a night with 19 digs and freshman Sade Williams added 16. Sophomore middle Jet Taylor recorded 10 kills and five blocks while senior outside hitter Hailee Ackerman and sophomore middle Cambree Scott both tallied nine kills apiece. Madison Pilon had a career high and lead the team with 50 assists.

In set one, Northwest took the lead early at 2-5. Fighting back in order to regain the lead at 6-5, the Mountaineers started to put points up increasing their lead to 17-12. However, the Eagles were not ready to give the set up just yet. Tying it at 24-24 the Eagles took the set after a kill and EOU error. After the initial loss, the Mountaineers started to find Northwest's weaknesses in the second set. At 19-19, after a kill by Jet Taylor, a service ace by junior libero Kiley McMurtrey, and a kill by Megan Bunn, the Mountaineers capitalized on their lead and ended the set 25-21.

The third set was controlled by the Mountaineers. After only two lead changes in the first 12 points, EOU took the lead for the rest of the set at 12-11. When the Eagles came within one point at 18-17, the Mountaineers held them to those 17 points for the rest of the match, snagging the win 25-17 after seven-straight EOU points.

EOU took advantage of an early lead in the fourth and final set leading the Eagles 5-1. After a small comeback by NU making it close at 6-5, the Mountaineers put on a show and never let the Eagles back in the game. Leading by seven points at 18-11, the Blue and Gold continued to put distance between themselves and NU. EOU had its biggest lead of the entire game at 22-14, but after six quick kills from the Eagles the score was close once again at 23-20. However, EOU volleyball has learned how to win this season and put the set to sleep after two kills from senior right side Taylor Tibbetts and Cambree Scott.

For Northwest, Keann White recorded a team high of 11 kills. Tatiana Ensz and Abigial Broussard both had nine of their own. Courteney Carr led the team with 18 assists while Anna Saelens had 15 of her own. On defense Cristina Hegarty had 21 digs.

The Mountaineers are back for their final road game of the weekend Saturday at The Evergreen State College at 5 p.m.
