Battlin' Bears Defeat Mountaineers 4-1

BILLINGS, Mont.- In a tough match for the Eastern Oregon men's soccer team, EOU fell 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Rocky Mountain College in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
 
EOU (4-7-1, 2-6 CCC) got off to a racing start, scoring just minutes into the match. Senior Elvis Pavon scored a beautiful goal from 35 yards out on a perfectly placed shot. The Mountaineers nearly doubled their lead when Alex Gutierrez's shot hit the post, denying him of a goal that could have been an even bigger momentum swing for EOU.
 
Rocky Mountain (8-3, 7-1 CCC) had a few chances of their own but could not capitalize on them, keeping the Mounties in the lead for the opening 45 minutes.

After the break, the Bears scored two quick goals just 30 seconds apart after breaking down the Mountaineer defense to give them the lead 2-1. Three minutes later, they added another goal from a corner kick. Sky Swenson finish off their scoring with 11 minutes left, making it 4-1.

The Bears held a slight advantage in shots at 15-7 and shots on goal at 7-3. Pavon and Alexander Zuluaga led the team with two shots apiece. Goalkeeper Max Rose made three saves in ent.
 
The Mountaineers will travel to Walla Walla on Sunday and then return home to Community Stadium next weekend to play Northwest and Evergreen State on Friday and Saturday.
