Women’s Basketball Opens Season with 93-33 Victory over YCC

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a dominating 93-33 victory over Yellowstone Christian College, Sunday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum.
 
The Mountaineers (1-0) jumped out of the gates with an incredibly hot start on both sides of the ball, outscoring LCC 30-4 through the first quarter. EOU extended that lead back out to 53-16 at the half.
 
The defensive effort was there all game for the Mountaineers, who held the Centurions to 11-for-44 from the field and 3-for-24 from beyond the arc.
 
11 different players got on the scoreboard for the Blue and Gold, with eight with at least six points each. Transfer Rachel Fielder led the team with 17 points, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor. Fellow transfer Megan Still had 16 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Beverly Slater added 15 points.
 
Junior Jillian Albright paced the Mounties with 10 rebounds and five assists. Junior transfer Taylor Stricklin added eight points and eight boards. Junior Tywanna Abbott also finished with eight points.
 
For the Centurions, MaShaya Algen led the team with 10 points.
 
The Mountaineers will next head to Portland for a scrimmage at the University of Portland on Thursday. They then return home for a matchup with Simpson on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
