Mountaineer Men Fall at North Idaho College

COUER d'ALENE, Idaho – The No. 20 Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team suffered a 40-9 defeat at the hands of North Idaho College on Thursday night on the road.

Senior Mhar Caballa kept his winning streak going to start the night off, defeating Jacob Garrison by a 7-2 decision. The No. 4 ranked wrestler in the NAIA, Caballa has had a remarkable senior campaign, already winning two tournaments including last week's Menlo Open.

The Mountaineers (8-9) were forced to forfeit the next two matches, falling behind 12-3 to the Cardinals. North Idaho then won the next four matches, with two pins, a major decision and a decision to go ahead 31-3.

Sophomore Marco Retano put an end to the losing streak with a late pin against Austin Burrell. After a back-and-forth first couple rounds, Retano out lasted his opponent in the third round to claim a pin with 34 seconds left.

The Mounties dropped the final two matches to fall 41-9 against the Cardinals.

EOU returns to the mat at home on Friday, hosting Warner Pacific at 7 p.m. for the second Annual EOU Bake Off. Fans are invited to try cakes made by the EOU athletic teams and vote for their favorite one.
