EOU Women's Soccer Tops Sierra Nevada 2-1

TAHOE VISTA, Calif. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer won the opening game of their two-game road trip 2-1 over Sierra Nevada on Wednesday afternoon. The No. 19 Mountaineers improve to 3-0 on the season with the win.

The Mounties out-shot the Eagles 18-8, and 12-4 in the second half. During the contest, EOU conceded their first goal of the season which tied the game at one apiece, but a goal by senior midfielder Taylor Boyer in the 67th minute gave the Blue and Gold the lead back for good.

The Mountaineers headed into the half with a 1-0 lead due to an own goal by Sierra Nevada in the 45th minute. The own goal was created by a flip-throw into the box by junior forward Nan Kiebert. Other than that, the half was evenly contested and both teams had their scoring chances.

Sierra Nevada answered back with aggressive play to start the second half, narrowly missing a goal deflecting off of the crossbar. The Eagles continued pressing, and found an equalizing goal in the 61st minute.

In the 67th minute, Boyer intercepted a Sierra Nevada pass, split two defenders and beat the keeper, scoring what proved to be the game-winner.

"While I don't believe we played our greatest game, it was nice to see the girls respond once Sierra Nevada scored their goal," head coach Jacob Plocher said after the game. "We have to be able to come out stronger tomorrow against Hope International."

EOU plays in Tahoe Vista again on Thursday against Hope International (Calif.) to try and finish the road trip with a 2-0 record. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
