No. 17 Mountaineers Stay Hot, Top No. 12 Yotes in Caldwell

CALDWELL, Idaho. – The No. 17 Eastern Oregon volleyball team continued its torrid September, winning its eighth-straight game by defeating No. 12-ranked College of Idaho on Thursday night.

The Mountaineers (13-4, 8-1 CCC) have not lost in September with the lone loss of the conference season coming on Aug. 31 against Southern Oregon in the CCC opener. Since then, the Mounties have won eight-straight with just five set losses.

Against another top team in the nation in the College of Idaho (11-6, 6-3 CCC), the Mounties were tasked with another tough opponent on the road.

Eastern Oregon prevailed once again behind another strong performance at the net as the team recorded 13 blocks, while being led offensively by junior Hailee Ackerman.

With 24 kills, Ackerman reset her career high in the category and had double of any other teammate. She hit .367 for the match.

After a crushing 25-10 set one victory, the Coyotes bounced back with a narrow 26-24 win in set two to even the score. The third set, which proved to be one of the toughest of the season for both teams, was a barnburner. The Mounties came out victorious, but it took a 30-28 score to solve C of I. A block gave EOU a one-point advantage, which was then capped off by a Yote attack error.

The Blue and Gold rolled in set four with the confidence of the close set three win, defeating the Coyotes 25-19 to cap their eighth win in a row.

At the net, junior Allyson Crisp led the team with six block assists and a solo block. Freshman Cambree Scott added a solo block with four block assists while senior Holli Mullins and junior Megan Bunn also had four assists.

Sophomore Madison Pilon paced the team with 28 assists, followed by senior Sarah Carpenter with 25. On defense, sophomore Kiley McMurtrey had 23 digs to lead the way. Bunn had 18, along with 12 kills for a double-double, and Pilon had 17 digs.

The Mountaineers will have a day off before returning home to host Walla Walla on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
