EOU Women’s Soccer Upsets No. 14 Embry-Riddle 1-0

PRESCOTT, Ariz.- After having their season opener canceled due to lightning, the EOU women's soccer team was hungry to get their first win, and they did not disappoint, defeating No.14 Embry-Riddle 1-0 on Friday night.

The No. 25 Mountaineers (1-0) visited No.14 Embry-Riddle and came out victorious thanks to an early second half goal from junior Nan Kiebert. Kiebert was fed the ball by senior midfielder Taylor Boyer at the top of the six yard box, where she turned and put the ball out of goalkeeper Caitlyn Aaron's reach.

"The ladies came out ready to play tonight, it was an exciting match to watch," said head coach Plocher. "We executed our game plan and our back line deserves a lot of credit, they played lights out."

Despite being out shot 18-10, the Mounties maintained constant pressure throughout the game. Kiebert led both teams with seven shots and five on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell was tested on multiple occasions throughout the game, but stood tall, making seven saves on her way to her first shutout of the year. The defense remained strong in front of Cottrell, limiting the opponents to only seven out of 18 shots on goal.

The Blue and Gold finish off their campaign in Arizona on Monday in Phoenix against Arizona Christian at 5 p.m.
