Mounties Take Down LCSC, Finish Undefeated in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – After a first set loss, the Eastern Oregon volleyball team responded to defeat Lewis-Clark State 3-1 to finish undefeated at the Spokane Valley Tournament on Saturday.
 
The Mountaineers (3-0) were the only team to finish undefeated at the tournament after taking down LCSC (23-25, 25-19, 25-7, 25-22).
 
The Blue and Gold came out to a blistering start, opening up a 6-0 lead on the Warriors to force a quick timeout. However, LCSC battled back and, with the EOU ahead 23-21, took the final four points to earn the set win.
 
The Mounties responded, providing a tough defense up front with 10 blocks and an efficient attack that hit .228 for the match. EOU held the Warriors to a hitting percentage of just .053 for the match.
 
Set three was a dominant one for EOU, as the team hit .444 with just one error while forcing seven LCSC errors to win 25-7.
 
Junior Megan Bunn had her third-straight double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. Fellow junior Hailee Ackerman added 10 kills while both Bunn and Ackerman had two block assists. Freshman Cambree Scott led the way with eight block assists while junior Taylor Tibbetts added five.
 
Senior Holli Mullins led the defense with 26 digs. Senior Sarah Carpenter had 19 assists and three service aces while sophomore Abby Smith had 16 assists.
 
The Mountaineers next host their first home match of the year on Tuesday against Whitman at 5 p.m. Following that, they will be at the Big Sky Invitational Aug. 24-25.
