No. 20 Mountaineers Finish 2-2 at CCC/GPAC Duals

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The No. 20 Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team won two out of four duals at the CCC/GPAC Duals on Sunday.

The Mountaineers earned wins over Concordia (receiving votes in the NAIA poll) by a 24-12 score and Hastings 42-6. EOU then fell to No. 9 Midland 26-16 and lost in a close dual to receiving votes Morningside 24-22.

Seniors Mhar Caballa and Drake Randall were the driving forces for the Mountaineers in the duals. Caballa, ranked fourth in the NAIA at 125 pounds, went 4-0, earning wins over two-ranked wrestlers including over No. 5 Jonas Gaytan of Midland and No. 12 Devin Phaly of Morningside via a first round pin.

Randall earned a top-20 victory over Dominique Evans of Midland by a close 5-4 decision. He also earned wins by fall and technical fall to have another dominant weekend, already ranked No. 4 in the NAIA at 165 pounds.

Against Concordia in the opening dual, Kurtis Loftis, Keegan Mulhill, Jacob Dupuis and Dino May each earned victories to give the Mountaineers the 24-12 win.

The Mountaineers dominated Hastings with wins by Caballa, junior Blake McNall, junior Tyler Miler, redshirt freshman Jared Brant, Mulhill, Randall, sophomore Marco Retano, May and freshman Justin Wilson. EOU's only loss came in a forfeit at 197 pounds.

More information for the duals will be available once full results are recorded. The Mounties take a break until after the New Year, next wrestling at the Menlo Duals on Jan. 4 in Atherton, California.
