May Drops Career-High 41 to Lead Men’s Basketball over Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore guard Jordan May continued his torrid pace, scoring a career-high 41 points to lead the Eastern Oregon men's basketball team over Corban 91-82 Sunday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

May posted at least 30 points for the second night in a row after scoring 33 on Saturday in a win at Northwest Christian. Against Corban, took shots from all areas of the court, making 15-of-26 field goal attempts with three triples. The sophomore was also 6-for-6 from the free-throw line with five points.

The Mountaineers (8-7, 3-1 CCC) held steady in the second half, only trailing once. Corban pulled to within three points 78-75 with 2:23 to play, but the Mounties scored eight-straight points to put the game out of reach. The team was clutch with free throws, making 10-of-11 over the last three minutes of the game. The Mountaineers were 19-for-21 from the charity stripe for the game.

Junior Landon Jones had another good game with 15 points and four rebounds in 33 minutes. Sophomore Peter Hamilton posted 12 points and four boards, junior Jarek Schetzle had seven points and rebounds while redshirt freshman Kobi Gardea added seven points and three assists, making a crucial three pointer in the final minutes.

EOU shot 47 percent from both the field and behind the arc. The Warriors made over 51 percent of their shots, but were just 8-for-22 on triples and 8-of-17 from the free throw line.

May's 41 points gives him 30 or more in five games already this year. He has scored less than 20 points just three times.

Corban's Joel Johnson had 22 points and 11 rebounds, scoring late baskets to attempt the Warrior comeback. Aj Hodges added 14 points.

EOU is next on the road on Tuesday at No. 1-ranked College of Idaho. The Yotes were upset on Sunday by Northwest Christian, a team the Mountaineers defeated a night prior. Tip off from Caldwell is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Mountain time.
