No. 14 Mountaineers Win 8th Straight in Ah You Dias’ Return

Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. – Returning two-time All-American Maya Ah You Dias to the starting lineup for the first time this year, the No. 14 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team rolled to its eight-straight victory on Saturday night, defeating Northwest Christian 74-61 on the road.

Ah You Dias had a big game for the Mounties (8-2, 3-0 CCC) in her first official game action of the 2018-19 season, posting a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. She provided a spark early in the game, recording eight points in the first five minutes of the game.

Fellow senior Maren Herrud had her best offensive game of the year with Ah You Dias able to take some of the defensive attention away. Herrud led the team with 22 points, shooting a blistering 9-for-12 from the field and 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Junior Jane Nelson, the team's leading scorer entering the game, added in 13 points.

The Mountaineers led nearly the entire night, only falling behind once in the first 30 seconds. A 22-11 advantage in the second quarter gave EOU a 46-30 lead at halftime. The Mounties took that lead and extended it to a game-high 20 points early in the third quarter.

Northwest Christian battled back in the third quarter, outscoring EOU 19-12. The Beacons trailed just 68-61 with 3:39 to play in the fourth quarter, but the Mounties put an end to the comeback attempt by shutting out NCU over the rest of the game.

Saturday's win keeps EOU's CCC winning streak in tact, which extends to 33-straight games, dating back to the 2016-17 season.

Senior Khadija Neumeyer added nine rebounds with three steals and two points. The Mounties had a strong game shooting the ball overall, making 40 percent from the field while hitting 43 percent from behind the arc.

EOU finished the game with 20 more shots attempted on the night as the Beacons did a good job of getting to the free-throw line. NCU was able to hang close by making 20-of-23 free throw attempts.

The Mountaineers finish the road trip on Sunday, visiting Corban at 4 p.m. in Salem, Oregon.
