Mountaineers Crush Big Bend CC 48-6 at Home

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team enjoyed a dominant night, defeating Big Ben Community College 48-6 on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum. The women's team also competed in exhibition matches, winning two individual bouts.
 
The Mountaineer men (1-2) won all five matches against BBCC led by pins by senior Mhar Caballa and junior Tyler Miler. The Blue and Gold picked up four wins by forfeit, while giving up their only points on the night be their own forfeit at 197 pounds.
 
Caballa (3-0) opened the evening with a pin of the Vikings' Cameron Thompson in a dominant match for the senior at 125 pounds.
 
Miler continued the trend at 149 pounds, pinning BBCC's Beau Wiebe to put the Mounties ahead 24-0.
 
After two more forfeits, senior Drake Randall battled against Roman Porter of Big Bend. Randall used his experience to earn multiple near-fall points, defeating Porter by a technical fall.
 
Sophomore Marco Retano, the reigning CCC Wrestler of the Week, added to EOU's lead by defeating Andrew Showman by a major decision. After the Mounties' lone forfeit, Justin Wilson won a close 3-1 decision over Martin Dominguez in the heavyweight bout.
 
On the women's side, Krystal Fabricante and sophomore Renay Monohan came through with victories for the Blue and Gold.
 
Fabricante won by a 10-0 technical fall in the first period, coming up with two four-point takedowns over BBCC's Alexis Delahanty. After a slow start for Monohan, the sophomore took control of her match against Samantha Schaapman to also win by technical fall at 14-4.
 
Cassidy Freeman, Rosa Ramirez and Amber Pair all also competed in exhibitions for Eastern.
 
The men's team will next wrestle Clackamas CC on Nov. 10 in Oregon City, followed by the Mike Clock Tournament on Nov. 11. The women's team will be at the first day of the Mick Clock Tournament on Nov. 10.
