Mounties End Pool Play with Loss to No. 6 Lindsey Wilson

SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The No. 11 Eastern Oregon volleyball team dropped its final match of pool play, getting swept by No. 6 Lindsey Wilson (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) at the NAIA Volleyball Championships on Thursday at the Tyson Events Center.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers (25-8) advance to the single-elimination 16-team bracket, which is set to begin on Friday. The loss does put EOU in a potentially tougher bracket, as they will face either No. 5 Dordt or No. 22 Corban in the first elimination round.

The Blue and Gold hit a solid .246 for the match against the Blue Raiders (32-3), finishing with just eight errors to Lindsey Wilson's 17. However, the Raiders' defense was extremely tough to best, recording 67 digs along with some outstanding returns that took away potential Mountie points.

The Raiders also hit .311 for the match, finishing with a 58-37 advantage in kills while limiting EOU's tough front line to just five blocks.

After a rough start to the match in which EOU fell behind 13-4, the Mountaineers rallied to tie the score 20-20 on a 16-7 run. Lindsey Wilson then called a timeout, resulting in the final five points of the set.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle as EOU narrowly led 16-15. From that point on, it was nearly all Raiders as they scored eight-straight points to go ahead 23-16, eventually winning 25-18.

Junior Hailee Ackerman had a great performance on offense, posting 12 kills to just one error, hitting at a .440 clip. Juniors Megan Bunn and Taylor Tibbetts each added seven kills.

Defensively, sophomore Kiley McMurtrey had 14 digs. Freshman Jet Taylor led the team with four blocks. Senior setter Sarah Carpenter had a double-double of 11 digs and 10 assists, while sophomore Madison Pilon had a team-high 19 assists.

The Mounties will return to the floor on Friday, as they play the winner of Pool E at 11:15 a.m. Central time, 9:15 a.m. Pacific time. EOU will either face No. 5 Dordt or conference rival No. 22 Corban. The winner of Friday morning's game will play again at 6 p.m. Central time.

A watch party will be available to watch for free in the EOU Booster Room in Quinn Coliseum.
