Mounties Slip to Northwest 1-0 in CCC Finals

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Battling for its second-straight Cascade College Conference tournament championship on Saturday, the No. 20 Eastern Oregon women's soccer team came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Northwest in the tournament finals, presented by U.S. Bank.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers' (15-2-2, 9-1-2 CCC) season will continue after earning the conference's automatic qualifier to nationals with the regular season title.

The Blue and Gold will find out their next opponent and destination on Monday at 9 a.m. Pacific time with the official NAIA Championships Bracket Reveal. The team will host a watch part while the reveal can also be found on the NAIA's Facebook page HERE.

Much like the teams' first matchup on Oct. 5, Saturday's finals were played very closely. Neither team could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes as EOU led the shot total 12-9.

The Eagles, who also punched their ticket to nationals by playing in the finals vs. EOU, capitalized on a rare scoring chance in the second half. Using their only shot of the final 45 minutes, defender Sharaya Roberts broke the tie in the 62nd minute with an assist by Jaclyn Metz.

Northwest went into shutdown mode after the goal, limiting EOU to just two shots and none on goal in the second half.

Senior Taylor Boyer and junior Jenna Jensen led the team with three shots each, while defender Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon had two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell tallied two assists.

The loss for the Mounties ends their seven-game winning and 13-game unbeaten streak.

For Northwest, it is their sixth win in the last seven matches and the program's first CCC tournament title.

The Mountaineers will await their next opponent for the NAIA Championships-Opening Round on Nov. 17. They will find out their opponent on Monday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. Pacific time on the NAIA Championships Bracket Reveal.
