EOU Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Carroll, 2-0

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU men's soccer team got a boost from junior forward Aldo Rivas who scored in the 24th minute and an early second-half goal by junior midfielder Steven Beaudry eventually put away Carroll en route to a 2-0 victory Friday afternoon at the EOU Soccer Field.

The first 20 minutes at the EOU Soccer Field proved to be a battle for possession as both teams only recorded a combined six shots, two apiece coming on frame. After consecutive fouls from EOU, (5-2-1, 2-1-1 CCC) the squad gathered composure and senior forward Carlos Peregrina got free up the right side of the pitch and his cross inside the five-yard box found Rivas for the header and score. It was Rivas' first tally of the year.

The rest of the first stanza, the Blue and Gold launched three shots, but none would come on target as the Mountaineers headed into the intermission holding a 1-0 advantage over Carroll.

Two minutes into the second half, CC had an opportunity to knot the affair collecting a corner kick but Jose Porras' shot went wide. The Mounties snagged the early momentum from the Fighting Saints and cashed in on their chance right away in the 49th with a goal from Beaudry. Peregrina was once again in on the action notching his second assist of the match.

Down the final stretch, the EOU backline rose up to the challenge and limited the Carroll attack. Junior keeper Aidan Wright logged two saves in the second stanza, including one in the 80th minute to preserve the clean sheet and the Mountie victory.

Wright moves to 5-2 in net for EOU, making three saves in today's match.

Rivas and Beaudry capped off the game rocketing three shots each, two on goal.

For Carroll, Porras and Nick Lowrimore each recorded two shots.

BY THE NUMBERS
2ND – Goal of the 2017 season for Beaudry.
5 – Wins behind net for Wright.
