No. 12 Mounties Cruise in Sweep of Walla Walla

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Behind a dominant defensive performance, the No. 12 Eastern Oregon volleyball team made quick work of Walla Walla (25-10, 25-17, 25-14) on the road in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Thursday night.
 
The Mountaineers (13-5, 7-2 CCC) finished with 11.5 team blocks in just the three sets, holding Walla Walla (1-13, 0-10 CCC) to a .000 hitting percentage for the match with an even 25 kills and errors.
 
Senior middle blocker Madisen Garlie, the NAIA leader in blocks per set entering the match, was one of the leaders on the front line on Thursday, finishing with nine total blocks. Senior outside hitter Amy Arnzen and sophomore outside hitter Megan Bunn each added five block assists.
 
Bunn led the offense with nine kills on 28 attacks to just one error. Arnzen, formerly a defensive specialist, posted a career-high eight kills with just one error and a .389 hitting percentage. As a team, the Mounties hit .294 from the floor and over .350 in two of three sets.
 
In the back row, junior defensive specialist Holli Mullins led the way with 17 digs. She was followed by freshman Kiley McMurtrey with 14 digs and freshman setter Madison Pilon with nine. Pilon also finished with 18 assists and two service aces to lead the Blue and Gold.
 
The Mountaineers return home on Friday night for a top-25 clash with No. 8-ranked College of Idaho at 7 p.m. for Whiteout Weekend at EOU. The first 100 fans to arrive at the mach wearing white EOU gear will receive a free slice of Dominoes Pizza.
