No. 9 EOU Women’s Basketball Squares Off Against Dickinson St. Wednesday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – After a one-year absence, the ninth-ranked EOU women's hoops team is back in familiar territory at the NAIA Division II National Championship – its fifth appearance in the last six years.
 
EOU (28-4) is the No. 3 seed in the Naismith Bracket and will face sixth-seeded and 21st-ranked Dickinson State (23-7) on Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa, at 9:15 p.m. CT. Should the Mountaineers win, they will play on Friday at 1:45 p.m. CT against either No. 2 Dakota Wesleyan or No. 7 Milligan.

EOU enters Wednesday's matchup red-hot, having won 13 in a row by an average of 22.4 points. After sharing the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Regular-Season Championship with Southern Oregon, the Mountaineers went on to defeat the Raiders, 74-69, in the tournament title.
 
This season, the Blue and Gold has been led by junior guard Maya Ah You (Dias), an all-conference selection who averages 13 points, five boards, and nearly three assists per game.
 
Junior forward Stormee Van Belle hauls down a team-best six rebounds and is third on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game, while junior sharpshooter Payton Parrish nets 10 points per contest and ranks fourth nationally in three-point field goal percentage (46.9).
 
As a team, EOU ranks in the top 20 nationally in 17 statistical categories, notably scoring defense (55.56 – 3rd), rebound margin (11.25 – 5th), field goal percentage (45.5 – 7th), and assists per game (17.91 – 9th).
 
In its last national tournament appearance in 2015, EOU fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan, 60-57, in the first round.
 
This will be EOU's 10th appearance n the NAIA Division II National Championship.

Based out of North Dakota, Dickinson State is making its second consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championship and fifth appearance all-time. The Blue Hawks earned an at-large bid after posting a 23-7 overall record and second-place finish in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) with a 14-2 mark.
 
During the 2016-17 campaign, Dickinson State started 3-3, dropping non-conference games to Montana Tech (16-15) and Rocky Mountain (13-18) and its NSAA opener to Jamestown (25-5), the regular season and conference tourney champion. However, the Blue Hawks managed to turn things around and at one point mustered 14 wins in a row on the way to logging a solid 2016-17 campaign.
 
Both Megan Klein and Taylor Henningsgard earned first-team all-conference honors for the Blue Hawks. A 6-foot-1 center, Klein was also named the NSAA Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 12.6 points, 14.5 rebounds (1st in NAIA), and 1.9 blocks per game.
 
Meanwhile, Henningsgard nets 11.8 points and dishes out 6.9 assists per contest (2nd in NAIA). The Blue Hawks share the wealth offensively, as four players average double figures.
 
Dickinson State ranks sixth in the NAIA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.22), eighth in blocks per game (4.27), and ninth in field-goal percentage defense (35.6).
