No. 8 Mounties Crush Program & CCC Records with 25 Made 3’s

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The No. 8 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team rolled to its eight-straight victory to end 2017 thanks to a record-shooting performance with 25 made three pointers. The Mountaineers defeated Walla Walla for the second-straight day, 109-54 on Saturday night.

A day after setting a new program record with 19 three pointers, the Blue and Gold (14-2, 7-0 CCC) crushed that performance with 25 on Saturday. The incredible shooting by the Mounties also crushed the CCC record, previously also 19, and is the most three pointers in a game in Division II NAIA this season.

Senior guard Payton Parrish led the record night for EOU, shooting 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and finishing with a game-high 20 points. Junior guards Maren Herrud and Maya Ah You-Dias each went 5-for-8 on threes while senior forward Mariah Swanson was a perfect 4-for-4 and senior guard Reece Bauer finished 3-for-3. The team finished 25-for-38 from long range in the game, good for 65.8 percent overall.

The Mountaineers came out of the gates blistering hot, shooting an incredible 71 percent from the field and behind the arc in the first half. The Mountaineers made 15 of their 25 threes in just the first 20 minutes, led by six from Parrish who had 18 points of her 20 points. Swanson had 16 points to also lead EOU in the opening two quarters.

Between the two games at Walla Walla, the Blue and Gold finished with 44 made three pointers and 210 points. They outscored the Wolves by 115 points over the weekend, setting a season high in points in each game. The Mounties finished with 30 assists on the team's 39 made baskets.

Herrud finished the game with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Swanson had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Ah You Dias had 15 points while four other Mounties each recorded at least eight points including Jessica Sexson, Stormee Van Belle, Reece Bauer and Jillian Albright.

For Walla Walla (2-9, 0-6 CCC), Michaela Garcia led the way with 16 points as the Wolves shot 37 percent from the field.

The Mountaineers next take their eight-game winning streak into the New Year, visiting Evergreen on Friday, Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Olympia, Washington.
