No. 13 Mountaineers Advance to CCC Semifinals with Sweep of NCU

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 13 Eastern Oregon volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank with a sweep of No. 6-seed Northwest Christian on Tuesday night at Quinn Coliseum.

"We played with a unified fearlessness and grit tonight, which is what we will need going into the rest of the tournament," said head coach Kaki McLean Morehead. "I am so proud of how our ladies played true Mountie volleyball tonight in front of a great crowd in Quinn Coliseum."

In front of the home crowd, the No. 3-seed Mountaineers (22-8, 15-5 CCC) dominated Northwest Christian (16-10, 11-9 CCC) with all three set victories by five or more points.

The Mounties opened the match with a 25-14 win in set one, hitting .378 from the floor while limiting the Beacons to a .062 hitting percentage. Overall, EOU limited NCU to a .089 attack percentage for the match, while hitting .284.

The combined hitting of outside hitters Megan Bunn and Amanda Miller finished with 24 of the team's 48 kills on the night. Bunn led the way with 13 kills and just one error, finishing with a .429 hitting percentage. Miller, the program's all-time career kills record holder, was even more efficient with a .556 hitting percentage thanks to 11 kills on 18 attacks.

With just five team blocks, the back row stepped up as they were flying around with 59 total digs. Freshman libero Kiley McMurtrey paced the team with 14 digs, followed closely by freshman Madison Pilon and Holli Mullins with 12 each and senior Malia Mills with 11.

Pilon led the team with 26 assists to post the double-double and junior setter Sarah Carpenter recorded 14 assists. Senior right-side hitter Isabelle Statkus had nine kills with a .304 hitting percentage and senior middle hitter Madisen Garlie posted eight kills, four blocks and a .316 attack percentage.

For the Beacons, their tournament run ends as Kasey Campbell led the team with nine kills. Damian Haley finished with 15 digs to lead all players and Maci Beierle had 21 assists.

The Mountaineers advance to the semifinals of the CCC tournament, which will be played at Corban University. EOU battles No. 2-seed College of Idaho in the semis on Friday at 4 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, regular season champions Corban will play Northwest at 7 p.m. as the top-four teams are a repeat from 2016.
