Mounties Advance to CCC Finals with 2-0 Win Over C of I

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team recorded its 12th shutout of the year en route to a 2-0 victory over College of Idaho in the semifinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank on Saturday at the Willamalane Sports Complex.

"The ladies played hard and together tonight," said head coach Jacob Plocher. "I am pleased with the 2-0 result as C of I is a great defensive team. Scoring two goals against them was no easy task. I am proud of our team and am looking forward to Monday."

The Mountaineers (12-3-2, 9-1-1 CCC) advanced to the finals of the tournament, which will be played on Monday at 3 p.m. against Northwest. With EOU already owning the first automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships, Northwest will receive the second AQ regardless of Monday's result.

The Blue and Gold (receiving votes) capitalized on its only two shots on goal in the match, netting both opportunities. In the 27th minute, junior midfielder Natalie Mitchell gave EOU a 1-0 lead with a 12yard shot into the back of the net.

Before the end of the first half, sophomore midfielder Cailin Koupal scored her third goal of the year on a loose ball in the 42nd minute to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead heading to halftime. Junior defender Chelsey Nicol assisted on the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell posted her 11th shutout of the season with three saves. Mitchell led the offense with five shots.

The Coyotes (7-9-2) led the match with 12 shots, nine of which coming in the second half as they attempted to break the shutout. EOU finished with 11 shots and an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.

EOU will have the day off on Sunday as they prepare to face Northwest on Monday for the tournament title. The Mounties defeated Northwest 2-1 on Sept. 22 in La Grande.
