No. 13 Mounties Swept by No. 14 College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho. – The No. 13 Eastern Oregon volleyball team suffered a sweep at No. 14 College of Idaho (25-19, 26-24, 25-11) on Thursday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
 
The Mountaineers (20-8, 14-5 CCC) were outhit in the match .272 to .153 with 37 kills to 16 attack errors. They Coyotes (22-5, 14-5 CCC) moved into a tie for second place in the conference standings with Eastern Oregon with the victory.
 
The Blue and Gold opened the match with a back-and-forth first set, playing nearly even through the first 20 points. C of I then used a four-point run to pull ahead 14-9 and never let their lead slip below three points, taking the opener 25-19.
 
The Mountaineers bounced back nicely in the second set, rolling off six-straight points to take an 18-9 lead and looking well in control to even the score. However, the Yotes did not back down, grabbing nine of the next 11 points to cut the deficit to 20-18. Later with the score tied at 24 all, the Coyotes won the final two points to complete the comeback take a 2-0 lead in the set.
 
The College of Idaho used its momentum in the third set, hitting .469 from the floor to win convincingly 25-11 and complete the sweep.
 
For EOU, sophomore outside hitter Megan Bunn led the team with 10 kills, followed by senior outside hitter Amanda Miller with eight.
 
Three Mounties reached double-digit digs, paced by junior Holli Mullins with 16. Freshman Kiley McMurtrey finished with 14 digs and senior Malia Mills dug 13.
 
Freshman setter Madison Pilon had 17 assists and junior Sarah Carpenter dished out 13.
 
The Mountaineers complete the regular season on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., hosting Walla Walla. Before the match, the team will honor the careers of Mills, Miller, Madisen Garlie, Emily Nay, Isabelle Statkus and Amy Arnzen as they will be playing their final home regular season matches at Quinn Coliseum.
