EOU Men’s Hoops Falls in Exhibition Match to Boise St. 104-65

BOISE, Idaho – The EOU men's basketball team (4-0) went toe-to-toe with Boise St. (1-0) keeping the margin within 10 through the mid-way point of the first half but the Broncos eventually pulled away en route to a season-opening victory of 104-65, Friday night at the Taco Bell Arena.
 
Sophomore guard Max McCullough led the Mounties with 13 points, while senior guard/forward Blake O'Donnell nearly snagged a double-double against the division I foe finishing with 11 points and seven boards. Senior guards Brennan Pope and Said Hersi added eight points apiece, and senior forward Austin Winegar dropped seven points.

Alex Hobbs shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field (3-for-3 from long range) to lead a trio of BSU starters in double-digit scoring with 21 points. EOU held Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year Chandler Hutchison – who was also named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List earlier in the week –  to five points in the first half before scoring 15 in the second stanza to finish with 20 points and eight boards. Fordham transfer Chris Sengfelder chipped in 15 points, going 4-for-10 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore forward Peter Hamilton brought the game within seven with his trey at the 10:40 mark in the first half. Minutes later, Hersi was fouled on a 3-point attempt and connected on pair, bringing the margin down to 10, 27-17. From there, the Broncos closed the half going on a 23-11 run and never looked back, shooting nearly 60 percent in the second half to seal the victory. Each Mountie dressed in uniform saw playing time in Friday night's contest.
