EOU Men’s Soccer Falls in Road Contest to Oregon Tech, 3-1

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The EOU men's soccer team (5-5-1, 2-4-1 CCC) found itself in a 2-0 hole after one period before junior defender Jesus Trejo cut the deficit to one late in regulation, only to see OIT (5-6, 4-4 CCC) answer less than a minute later to put the game out of reach in the 3-1 defeat Saturday afternoon at the Oregon Tech Soccer Field.

Oregon Tech struck first just two minutes into the contest as Brennan Gazdik scored inside the box off an assist from Trinidad Flores to put the Husltin' Owls up 1-0. Junior keeper Aidan Wright was tested twice by Flores before the 15th minute mark but the Mountie keeper came up with both saves to keep the deficit at one.

In the 34th minute, Flores would not be denied as he found himself past the EOU backline and scored off a well-placed through ball from Colton Grytness for the 2-0 advantage. To close out the half, the Blue and Gold offense posted one shot before going into the intermission down two scores.

The beginning stages of the second-half looked to be on EOU's side. After an OIT foul inside the box four minutes into play, EOU was awarded its first penalty kick of the year. Junior defender Jorge Chavez stepped up for the kick and his first attempted was thwarted by Gerardo Skewes. Chavez returned to the loose ball and fired his second attempt but was denied.

Trailing and time not on the Mounties' side, Trejo stepped up and scored his first goal of the season – first goal in nearly two years – in the 80th minute. It didn't take long for OIT to respond, within a matter of seconds, the Owls struck back with a goal from Grytness on a breakaway. It proved to be the dagger as the hosts came out on top 3-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

In the losing effort, Wright recorded five saves. Chavez and sophomore forward Alex Gutierrez each fired three shots.

OIT had four players with two or more shots, Flores led the charge with three on frame.
