Second-Half Goal Dooms EOU Men’s Soccer in 1-0 Loss to SOU

ASHLAND, Ore. – It was a scoreless first period for both squads until SOU scored 10 minutes after the break, courtesy of a Logan Guler header, for what was the eventual game-winner Friday night at Raider Stadium.

The backline of the Mountaineers (5-4-1, 2-3-1 CCC) were pinned early as SOU (6-6, 6-1 CCC) nearly scored in the third minute but the save was handled by junior keeper Aidan Wright, who got the start this week after missing the last game. In the 25th minute, SOU's Sean McManamon created a quality chance for the Raider but his shot rifled off the crossbar.

In one last attempt to get on the scoreboard, junior midfielder Josh Goodman rocketed a shot that sailed high over the goal as both teams headed into halftime scoreless.
After one stanza, SOU led in shots, 5-3, but both teams each created three corners apiece.

Shortly after another save from Wright, the Raiders cashed in on their fourth corner of the night off a header from Guler at the 55th minute mark.

Down the stretch, the offense for Blue and Gold created four shots with two coming on goal. Junior defender Jorge Chavez threatened the Raiders' defense with a header shot in the 87th tick almost netting the equalizer, before being saved by Wyatt Zabinsky on his way to the shutout victory.

Chavez led EOU with three shots, while Wright, in the losing effort, logged six saves.

BY THE NUMBERS
2 – Shots on goal for EOU.
