EOU Men’s Soccer Falls in Road Match to C of I, 3-1

CALDWELL, Idaho. – The EOU men's soccer team (7-6-1, 4-5-1 CCC) was put in an early hole and at one point trailed 3-0 in the late stages of the second stanza before junior midfielder Josh Goodman broke the shutout with his second goal of the year in the 3-1 loss Friday afternoon at Simplot Stadium.

EOU was the clear aggressor early on in the opening minutes, finding holes and getting through the C of I (7-7, 5-5 CCC) backline. After a few shots proved to go wide, the momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Yotes. Off an EOU corner, the ball was cleared all the way to midfield onto the foot of Carter Perry. He then proceeded to take the 1v1 matchup against junior defender Jorge Chavez nearly 40-yards for the score.

Four minutes before the half, senior forward Julian Wells looked to knot the affair at one, but his effort was thwarted by keeper Grant Billings. In another turn of events, C of I capitalized on an EOU foul in the box and netted a penalty kick to go up 2-0 in the 44th minute.

Wasting no time, the Yotes swelled the lead to three in the 51st minute. Off a cross into the box, Jacob Hurter was there for the tap in. Cole Fuller was credited with the assist.

Down the stretch, the Mountaineers launched a total of six shots, including Goodman's goal in the 74th minute. Two of those six shots would hit the post.

Wells capped off the game leading EOU with five shots, two coming on frame. In net, freshman keeper Alex Mitchell recorded two saves.

The loss puts EOU two spots outside the top eight for the CCC Tournament. Up next, the Mounties will face No. 7 Rocky Mountain at 11 a.m. Sunday.
