EOU Men’s Soccer Suffers 3-0 Loss to No. 7 Rocky Mountain

BILLINGS, Mont. – The EOU men's soccer team (7-7-1, 4-6-1 CCC) yielded Rocky's (14-1, 10-1 CCC) first goal three minutes into the match off a set-piece as the Battlin' Bears had three different players record a goal in the 3-0 win Sunday afternoon at Wendy's Field.

The 7-ranked team in the nation wasted no time getting on the board capitalizing quickly off an EOU foul. From 25-yards out, reining CCC Player of the Week Marco Kummerle curled his right-footed shot to the back post and found the head of Matthew Thomas for the score.

The Mountaineers had opportunities the remainder of the way in the first stanza, but their three shots on frame were all denied by RMC keeper Cole Catlin. It proved to be the only shots on target EOU would record the rest of the afternoon. Despite the early goal, the Blue and Gold only trailed 1-0 at the intermission.

After having his original shot blocked, Milo Downey got a second chance inside the 18-yard box from Sam Davidson for the second tally. With 12 minutes left before the end of regulation, the lead swelled to three as this time, it was Davidson who corralled a loose ball in front of the near post for the finish.

The EOU offense recorded just one shot in the second period and in total, were outshot 19-7. RMC also had the upper hand in corners, 11-4.

It was a busy day in net for freshman keeper Alex Mitchell who recorded six saves – three in each period – in the losing effort.

Juniors Steven Beaudry and Jorge Chavez each recorded two shots apiece for EOU.

With Friday's loss to C of I and today against Rocky, the Blue and Gold still remain two spots outside the top-8 for the CCC Tournament.
