EOU Women’s Soccer Defeats Warner Pacific in 2-0 Contest

PORTLAND, Ore. – The EOU women's soccer team (8-2-1, 7-0 CCC) bumped its winning streak to seven games Saturday night as the squad shutout Warner Pacific (3-7-2, 1-3-2 CCC) with a pair of goals from sophomore Cailin Koupal and junior forward Taylor Boyer at Damazo Field.

It took some time for the EOU offense to get going in the first stanza as the Mounties through 20 minutes recorded just three shots, one of them coming on frame. In the 22nd tick, Koupal came off the bench and the move was just the spark the Mounties were looking for. It took the sophomore 12 minutes to record the first goal of the game and her first of the season in the 34th minute.

Both teams closed the rest of the half without a shot as EOU held a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

In the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, the offense ramped up for EOU. Junior forward Natalie Mitchell and senior forward Yasmin Mookerdum both had their shots denied by Zoey Dahme. Junior forward Taylor Boyer and freshman defender Natalie Goeth followed up the attack but came up empty.

Sophomore keeper Cydni Cottrell was tested for the first time in the 70th minute coming up with her first save of the evening. Boyer helped cushion the lead for Cottrell in the 87th minute tacking on the insurance goal as she dribbled through the defense and launched a strike from about 18-yards for the score.

EOU dominated in shots 15-5, 12 coming on goal. Boyer led the charge with four shots. Mitchell and Mookerdum finished the match with three apiece.

In net, Cottrell logged two saves and moved to 6-1 on the year. The sophomore now has recorded five shutouts in her last six matches.

EOU returns to the pitch on Oct. 20 against College of Idaho. Kickoff in Caldwell, Idaho is set for 1:30 p.m. PT.
