EOU Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten, Blanks Soka, 2-0

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. The EOU men's soccer team concluded its California road swing unscathed, as the Mountaineers issued a strong second-half performance to take down Soka, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

EOU (3-0) outshot Soka (1-1), 15-4, and the Blue and Gold owned a 10-5 edge in corners.

For the third-straight contest, junior forward Tyler Hoiem netted a tally, while senior defender Osvaldo Martinez also scored for EOU.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Alfredo Lara collected one save, and sophomore keeper Aidan Wright helped finish the shutout in the final 15 minutes.

After a scoreless first half, EOU got on the board in the 55th minute when Martinez scored on a free kick that snuck into the low post.

Hoiem, who already has four goals on the year, tacked on an insurance goal in the 74th minute after he buried a volley into the back of the net. It was the brotherly connection that anchored the score, as sophomore midfielder Riley Hoiem was credited with the assist.

The Mountaineers' backline defense held Soka's offensive attack to only four shots and one shot on goal.
