No. 6 EOU Volleyball Denies Multnomah in Three

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The sixth-ranked EOU volleyball team netted the ninth-best hitting percentage in program history with a .455 clip, and the Mountaineers tallied their 15th-straight triumph with a three-set (25-7, 25-14, 25-14) thumping over Multnomah on Saturday at Quinn Coliseum.
 
Recording double-figure kills for the sixth-straight match, junior outside hitter Amanda Miller led the way with 11 kills, while senior middle hitter Kasaundra Tuma and junior hitter Madisen Garlie added seven and six kills, respectively.
 
Junior libero Malia Mills led the back row with 12 digs and three aces, and senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain just missed a double-double with 32 assists and nine digs.
 
As a team, EOU dialed in a season-high eight service aces.
 
In the first set, EOU (15-1, 8-0 CCC) hit .478 en route to snagging a 25-7 win. Up 6-4, Garlie delivered an ace to launch a 13-2 run capped by a kill from Chamberlain. Following a Multnomah side-out, freshman hitter Megan Bunn hammered one down to start a 5-0 run and seal the set for the Blue and Gold.
 
The second frame saw the Mountaineers race to a 7-0 advantage after kills by Garlie and freshman hitter Hailee Ackerman. The Lions (5-9, 1-7 CCC) pulled to within five (10-5) before Miller sent one into the hardwood to spark a 10-3 run to put the stanza out of reach. At set point (24-14), Chamberlain dished to Garlie for another tally to make it a 2-0 match in favor of EOU.
 
Multnomah refused to go down without a fight, as the third frame watched the Lions race to a 6-3 advantage after an ace by Miranda Halverson. After the squads traded side-outs, Tuma put a pair away to ignite a 17-5 run to put EOU on top by nine (21-12), and the Lions got in two more before the Mountaineers closed the match with four-straight points to cash the victory.
