Miller Leads No. 6 EOU Volleyball Past Oregon Tech, 3-0

Box Score

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – It wasn't easy, but the sixth-ranked EOU volleyball team got another Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory, this time on the road at Oregon Tech.

Led by 17 kills from junior outside hitter Amanda Miller, the Mountaineers hit .275 on the way to powering past Oregon Tech in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-22) on Friday night.

Next to Miller, junior hitter Madisen Garlie put down 10 kills and added three blocks (one solo), while senior middle hitter Kasaundra Tuma and junior hitter Isabelle Statkus added seven and five kills, respectively. Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 41 assists, and sophomore libero Holli Mullins collected a career-high 22 digs.

Miller cashed in six kills in the opening frame to help EOU to a 25-21 victory. With the stanza knotted at 10 apiece, a Miller kill sparked a mini 4-0 burst to give EOU a smidgen of breathing room, but the Owls ultimately fought back to make it a one-point (17-16) contest. The Mountaineers responded with four straight, and at set point (24-21), Miller attacked for a kill to put EOU on top, 1-0.

The second set was tight early on, featuring eight ties in the early going. At 10 all, Chamberlain snuck over a kill to launch an 11-2 run, and the Blue and Gold never looked back. Statkus and Chamberlain tallied points to make it a 23-16 contest, and Miller posted the final two kills to seal the set, 25-17.

In the third frame, the Mountaineers (16-1, 9-0 CCC) utilized a 7-1 run to build a seven-point (17-10) advantage, as Garlie and Statkus put down kills to cap the spurt. The Owls ultimately got within one on three occasions, but Miller and Tuma mustered kills to keep Oregon Tech (7-8, 3-6 CCC) at bay and dial in the 25-22 third-set victory.
