EOU Men’s Soccer Opens CCC Play With Double Overtime Draw

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The EOU men's soccer team tallied a late goal before the end of regulation and hung tough in the extra periods, ultimately leading to a double overtime, 1-1 draw against Evergreen on Friday afternoon.

In the opening 45 minutes, the Mountaineers (5-0-1, 0-0-1 CCC) had their chances, totaling six shots and three shots on goal.

The second-half drama started early, as senior goalkeeper Alfredo Lara saved a penalty kick just one minute into the stanza. It wasn't until the 71st minute when Evergreen (1-0-1, 0-0-1 CCC) broke through after Jordan Zimmerman's header snuck past Lara off a corner kick.

In the winding moments of regulation, a crucial foul was awarded to EOU in the 85th minute. Senior defender Osvaldo Martinez would take the free kick only to have it deflected to sophomore forward Elvis Pavon, who was able to fire it past the keeper to tie the match at one apiece.

For the second-straight affair, EOU found itself in overtime. But this time, both teams failed to find the back of the net, resulting in the 1-1 draw.

EOU owned a 14-6 advantage in shots, as well as a 7-5 edge in corners.

Lara finished with two saves, while Pavon fired six shots, including three on goal.
