EOU Men’s Soccer Falls To Northwest, 3-1

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The EOU men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season at the hands of Northwest, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Despite holding a 12-4 shot advantage in the first stanza, the Mountaineers (5-1-1, 0-1-1 CCC) gave up an early goal to Northwest (6-1, 2-0 CCC) in the 12th minute, as Elijah Gordon capitalized on a free kick from 25 yards out.

Quickly into the second half, the Blue and Gold looked to equalize the match. In the 47th minute, senior midfielder Cristian Anguiano had his shot blocked by the Northwest keeper, and then freshman forward Oscar Munoz attempted a header on the deflection but was also denied.

In the 61st minute, the Eagles would score another tally off a header by Max Schellmann. Just eight minutes later, Chris Iacolucci tacked on the insurance goal to extend Northwest's lead to three.

EOU netted its lone goal of the match in the 79th minute, as sophomore forward Elvis Pavon scored off a free kick from 30 yards out. It was Pavon's third goal in the last three contests.  

Senior goalkeeper Alfredo Lara finished the match with five saves, while Pavon fired eight shots, including three on goal.
