Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The (RV) Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team outscored (RV) Oregon Tech by a combined 25 points in the first and third quarters, propelling the team to a 73-63 victory over the Owls on Sunday afternoon at Danny Miles Court.
The Mountaineers moved into sole possession of second place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC).
KEY PERFORMANCES
Senior guard Maloree Moss led five players in double figures with 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. A pair of seniors in Madeline Laan (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Nikki Osborne (13 points, 10 rebounds) recorded double-doubles for EOU, while sophomore guard Payton Parrish and senior guard Jordan Klebaum added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Megan Whetstone paced Oregon Tech (21-7, 14-4 CCC) with 24 points on 8-for-13 shooting.
THE STORYLINE
EOU shot a stifling 61.6 percent (8-for-13) in the first quarter to build a 24-12 advantage. In the final 90 seconds of the stanza, both Parrish and junior forward Ashley Knight knocked down perimeter jumpers to cap the run.
A pair of three's and a couple free throws by Oregon Tech helped the Owls bridge the gap to four (24-20) with 5:41 left in the second quarter, but Laan responded with back-to-back buckets to keep EOU in front.
The Mountaineers (19-9, 15-4 CCC) led at the break, 30-26.
After the Owls got to within two (30-28) just over 10 seconds into the third quarter, the Navy and Gold erupted to score 20 of the next 28 points to build a 50-36 lead with 3:30 remaining after another triple by Parrish.
EOU led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter and held off a late rally by Oregon Tech with seven free throws in the final 1:35 to dial in the 10-point victory.
STATS OF THE GAME
+10 – EOU outrebounded Oregon Tech, 39-29 – a vast improvement from the January loss in which the Owls outboarded the Mountaineers by nine.
10 – EOU improved to 10-0 when hitting 10 or more three's in a game.
