No. 19 EOU Women’s Basketball Tops Evergreen, Secures Eighth Straight Win

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The 19th-ranked EOU women's hoops team outscored the Evergreen State College by 24 in the second half en route to toppling the Geoducks, 70-38, on Saturday night at the Costantino Recreation Center.
 
Junior guard Jessica Sexson netted a career-high 15 points to pace EOU, while senior guard Ashley Knight came off the bench to record 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Meanwhile, junior guards Payton Parrish and Reece Bauer added nine points apiece.
 
In the opening 20 minutes, EOU did most of its damage inside, compiling 16 of its 32 first-half points in the paint on a 56 percent (14-for-25) clip.
 
Leading 17-16, the Blue and Gold closed the second stanza with a 15-8 run to take an eight-point (32-24) advantage into the locker room. Sexson mustered five straight points to spark the flurry, and then Parrish closed the frame with a triple. EOU held Evergreen to a 33.3 percent (9-for-27) effort from the field and scored 15 points off 14 Geoduck turnovers in the first half.
 
The Mountaineers (13-2, 6-0 CCC) were simply infuego to open the third quarter, hitting seven of its first eight shots to build a 47-26 lead after a three by Parrish and jumper by junior forward Stormee Van Belle. EOU confined Evergreen (3-10, 2-5 CCC) to just one field goal in the third frame, as the Mountaineers held the Geoducks without a point for nearly eight minutes.
 
In the fourth, the Blue and Gold continued to show off its dominance, stretching its advantage to as many as 32 points on the way to remaining perfect in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play.
