KIRKLAND, Wash. – The EOU women's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games and remained unbeaten in conference play Friday night with a one-point victory against Northwest.
Senior guard
Donniesha Webber came off the bench and led all Mountaineers (12-2, 5-0 CCC) with 13 points and brought down four rebounds. Junior guard
Maya Ah You stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while junior guard
Reece Bauer produced 10 points and seven boards.
NU (8-8, 3-3 CCC) was led in scoring by Mariah Stacona who dropped a game-high 19 points and Miranda Langenhorst scored 12 points and snagged 11 rebounds. Katie Rozumny chipped in 12 points while Charmaine Bradford added 11 points along with four rebounds and three assists.
After falling behind 22-17 after the first period to NU, the Blue and Gold got off to a slow start in the opening minutes of the second period. A layup from Kalee Folwer and a tip-in from Langenhorst ignited the Eagles to go on a 13-6 run, pushing the margin to 10 (33-23).
EOU responded as junior guards
Jessica Sexson and Ah You combined for 13 points in the last five minutes of the quarter, but still trailed at the half, 39-34.
In the third period, Stacona drained a triple to put the Eagles up seven (50-43) with 2:57 remaining. Two-point jumpers from Bauer and Webber closed the gap to within six (55-49) as the Mounties closed the period on a 12-5 run, tying the game at the end of the third period, 55-55.
With 4:23 left in the fourth period, junior guard
Payton Parrish nailed a shot from beyond the arc to give EOU its first lead (64-61) since the 2:19 mark in the second period. Bradford answered back with two-point jumper cutting the lead down to one (63-64). On the following play, Parrish drained a three-pointer to put the Blue and Gold up 67-63, but Stacona answered immediately with a three-pointer of her own, bringing EOU's lead back to one.
Coming off a 30 second timeout, Parrish failed on a three-point attempt, giving the Eagles a chance to take the lead but Hannah Carlson missed a jumper with 50 seconds left, ultimately securing the win for EOU.
