Exhibition Contest Against Northwest Nazarene Slips Away From No. 17 EOU Women’s Basketball

NAMPA, Idaho – Senior guard Darian Gasseling drilled a three-pointer to give the 17th-ranked EOU women's hoops team a six-point lead late in regulation, but NCAA Division II institution Northwest Nazarene ultimately rallied to steal an 83-81 exhibition win.
 
Junior guard Maya Ah You put up a game-high 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting, while Gasseling added 14 points and four triples. Senior guard Ashley Knight netted 12 points and hauled in a team-best seven rebounds, and senior guard Donniesha Webber chipped in 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
 
The Mountaineers (2-0) led by as many as nine (25-16) after Gasseling buried a three with 9:49 left in the second stanza, but the Crusaders closed the quarter on a 20-10 run to take a one-point (36-35) lead into halftime.
 
With the game tied at 67 apiece in the fourth, Ah You tossed in a jumper, and EOU proceeded to stretch its margin to six (78-72) after buckets by junior guard Alisha Sorensen and Gasseling. Northwest Nazarene responded with a 10-3 burst to go up by one (82-81), and the Blue and Gold had a chance to take the lead in the winding moments before yielding a turnover.
 
The Crusaders outrebounded the Mountaineers, 41-26, resulting in a 16-6 advantage in second-chance points.
