No. 6 EOU Volleyball Sweeps No. 22 Corban in NAIA Match of the Week

SALEM, Ore. – While the NAIA Match of the Week may not have been as close as the spectators at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center had hoped for, the sixth-ranked EOU volleyball team certainly lived up to its name.

Led by a match-high 16 kills from junior outside hitter Amanda Miller, the Mountaineers handled No. 22 Corban in straight sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-23) en route to pulling off its 19th-straight victory, and head coach Kaki McLean Morehead earned her 200th-career win at the helm.

Miller did her damage on 27 attempts for a .593 clip, while senior middle hitter Kasaundra Tuma added nine kills and four block assists. Freshman swatter Megan Bunn tallied seven kills and a career-high 11 digs, and senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain posted 38 assists.

Trailing 7-5 in the opening set, EOU (19-1, 12-0 CCC) assembled a 10-1 run capped by a kill from Chamberlain and a Warrior mishap to go up by seven (15-8). Corban ultimately pulled to within one (21-20) and forced the Mountaineers to call a timeout, but Tuma and Miller responded with kills to kickstart a 5-1 run to close the set.

In the second frame, the Mountaineers raced to a 19-8 lead after two-straight kills by Miller, a kill by Tuma, and a Warrior attack error. Senior hitter Makayla Lindburg tallied two of her seven kills to lift EOU to set point (24-11), and then Miller hammered one down to seal the second stanza for the Blue and Gold.

Following a brief intermission, Lindburg delivered an ace to launch a 6-1 EOU run to open the third frame. The Warriors (13-5, 9-3 CCC) fired back with 15 of the next 21 to go up by two (14-12), but Miller swung back for three kills amidst an 8-2 Mountaineer burst to regain the edge, 20-16. Tuma put one down to muster match point (24-20), and Corban carded three more points before committing one of its 22 attack errors to yield the third stanza and the match.
