No. 6 EOU Volleyball Upended by College of Idaho, 3-1

CALDWELL, Idaho – A school record 19-match winning streak came to a close on Tuesday night, as the No. 6 EOU volleyball team dropped a four-set (20-25, 25-15, 25-17) decision to College of Idaho at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

While it may not have been the Yotes' biggest triumph in program history, it was certainly an upset – EOU was the highest-rated opponent knocked off by College of Idaho at home.

Junior outside hitter Amanda Miller tallied a team-high 13 kills in the losing effort, while senior hitters Kasaundra Tuma and Makayla Lindburg added eight kills apiece. Lindburg also posted 11 digs for the Mountaineers.

Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain netted a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs, and junior libero Malia Mills dove for a team-high 16 digs.

As a team, EOU hit a season-low .112, while College of Idaho swung for a .273 clip and recorded eight service aces.

In the opening set, Miller and freshman hitter Megan Bunn combined for seven kills as EOU mustered a 25-20 win. A block assist by Tuma and Chamberlain and two Yote attack errors put the Mountaineers on top, 13-7, forcing College of Idaho to call a timeout. The Yotes never got closer than four, and Miller booked two-straight kills to close the set and win it for EOU.

The second stanza saw College of Idaho close with a 15-6 run en route to stealing the frame, 25-15. Three-straight kills by Miller kept the Mountaineers close early on and sliced the margin to one (10-9), but that's when Brenna Meehan took over to sail the Yotes to a second-set victory.

In the third set, College of Idaho (13-8, 8-5 CCC) doubled up (14-7) EOU early before eventually stretching its advantage to as many as 11 (19-8) after a 5-0 run. The Blue and Gold fought off three set points and got to within seven (24-17) after three-straight Yote attack errors, but a block assist ultimately gave College of Idaho the edge, 25-17.

EOU (19-2, 12-1 CCC) fell down by six (14-8) in the fourth set before Miller carded a kill and senior hitter Madisen Garlie teamed up with Lidnburg for the block assist to pull the Mountaineers to within four (14-10). But that would be as close as EOU would get, as College of Idaho erupted for six of the next seven to go up by nine (20-11), and the Yotes ultimately came away with a 25-13 fourth-set win.
