No. 6 EOU Volleyball Swings .391 in Three-Set Triumph Over Evergreen

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Freshman hitter Megan Bunn attacked for a career-high 14 kills, and the sixth-ranked EOU volleyball team wasted no time taking care of Evergreen in straight sets (25-13, 25-12, 25-18) on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.

Bunn hit .458 and delivered two service aces, while junior middle hitter Emily Nay added a season-high eight kills. Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 37 assists, while sophomore libero Holli Mullins and senior hitter Sierra Linke recorded 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

As a team, the Mountaineers (20-2, 13-1) hit .391 while holding the Geoducks (4-16, 3-10 CCC) to a .056 clip. Head coach Kaki McLean Morehead improved to 21-0 against Evergreen.

In the opening set, Evergreen's Natalie Taylor delivered three-straight aces before EOU responded with an 18-6 run capped by two kills by senior hitter Kasaundra Tuma. Nay and senior hitter Makayla Lindburg hammered down kills to lift EOU to set point (24-13), and then Chamberlain dumped one over to seal the set.

The second stanza saw the Blue and Gold tally 15 of the first 21 points after junior right-side hitter Isabelle Statkus pounded one down and then teamed up with Tuma for the block assist. Up 13 (24-11), Lindburg slammed one into the hardwood to give EOU a two-set lead.

In the third frame, the Mountaineers showed no signs of slowing down, as senior hitter Madisen Garlie rose for the solo block to put EOU on top, 17-9. Kills by Bunn and Nay and a service ace by Linke made it a 22-13 contest, and freshman hitter Hailee Ackerman ultimately delivered the decisive kill to win the set and the match for the Blue and Gold.
